Freesia cultivation methods and precautions

Freesia cultivation methods and precautions

1. Soil

During maintenance, use sandy soil with good water retention and drainage, and it should contain organic matter and be acidic. Saline-alkaline soil will affect normal growth. You can mix humus, garden soil and an appropriate amount of sand to prepare it yourself, so that there is sufficient nutrients and it is more conducive to growth.

2. Watering

The plant does not need to be watered frequently when it is first potted to avoid waterlogging and root rot. After the leaves grow, water should be applied when the soil is dry and water should be applied when the soil is wet. Usually, water thoroughly once a week. When the temperature is low in winter, you need to control water, and the same applies to the flowering period, you need to reduce the amount of water.

3. Fertilization

It likes fertilizer relatively well, so after it is fixed, you need to apply an appropriate amount of fertilizer and water two or three times. Phosphorus and potassium fertilizers can be used. Nutrients should be supplemented after buds appear, and well-rotted organic fertilizer should be used when fertilizing to promote flowering. During the flowering period, apply a solution of potassium dihydrogen phosphate to make the leaves more shiny.

4. Temperature

It has poor cold resistance, and it is best to provide it with an environment between 15 and 20 degrees during maintenance. The temperature in winter should not be lower than zero, and the minimum should be controlled at around 5 degrees. In addition, during the high temperatures in summer, pay attention to more ventilation and watering to cool down.

5. Notes

If the environment is not suitable or the methods are inappropriate during maintenance and management, it is easy to cause diseases, the most common of which are mosaic disease and ball rot. When discovered, spray pesticides in time to control them. In addition, the bulbs must be disinfected when repotting every year.
