How to make roses survive easily through cuttings

How to make roses survive easily through cuttings

1. Cutting time

Rose cuttings are suitable for spring and autumn. Spring is mostly in April and May, while autumn is in September and October. High temperatures in summer will cause the plants to fail to survive, so it is also possible to take cuttings indoors in winter.

2. Pot soil preparation

Suitable potting soil can provide a better growth environment for branches. It is recommended to mix garden soil, leaf mold and rice husk ash in a certain proportion as culture soil, which can provide nutrients for the growth of cuttings. Do not add base fertilizer to the potting soil, and do not apply fertilizer after cuttings, as fertilizer will damage the branches.

3. Cutting branches

Select thick branches about 10 cm long with leaf buds. The bottom should be cut obliquely, and the leaves in the middle and lower parts should be removed, leaving only the two compound leaves on the top to avoid water transpiration. Applying rooting water or willow sap to the base of the branches can help them take root. Before cuttings, poke holes in the potting soil with chopsticks, and then insert the cuttings 5 cm into the soil.

4. Bag Moisturizing

After cuttings, cover the branches with a plastic bag, but do not tie the opening. This can effectively moisturize the cuttings. Take them down at night to allow ventilation, and cover them again in the early morning. It takes about 40 days to bag the plants, during which time the soil must be kept moist but without any stagnant water. Do not water too much, and water thoroughly when the soil is slightly dry.
