How to graft cucumber onto pumpkin

How to graft cucumber onto pumpkin

1. Plant pumpkins first

The root system of pumpkin is deep and relatively developed, so cucumber can be grafted with pumpkin. This will make the grafted cucumber more disease-resistant and increase the yield accordingly. You can choose pumpkin seeds with good affinity, so that the two will be easier to grow and there will be no rejection. You can use black seed pumpkin or white seed pumpkin. Ordinary pumpkin seeds are not suitable. After selecting the variety, plant the pumpkin first and let its plant grow first. The stem will also be thicker than the cucumber root.

2. Planting cucumbers again

After planting the pumpkin seeds, wait about 5-6 days before sowing the cucumber seeds, so that the growth rate will be slower. Selecting seeds with higher quality and better yield can ensure good yield.

3. Grafting

When the pumpkin seedlings grow to 8-9 cm, the true leaves have grown out, while the true leaves of the cucumber are just beginning to grow out. This is the best time to graft. Use a sterilized razor blade to remove the head next to the cotyledons, and then cut the top of the stem into two halves, with the depth being moderate, not too deep. Cut the stubble next to the cotyledons of the cucumber and insert it into the stem of the pumpkin, and it will grow on its own. During the entire operation, attention must be paid to sterilization and disinfection, otherwise it will be infected with bacteria and die.
