How to prune short-branch Fuji

How to prune short-branch Fuji

1. Combing the flower buds

The biggest difference between short-branch Fuji and long-branch Fuji is that short-branch Fuji is easier to bloom. Usually a branch can bloom from the top to the base. Too many flowers will consume a lot of nutrients and be detrimental to the growth of branches. In addition, it will also affect the spread of branches. Therefore, all the flower buds within 30 centimeters of the branches can be combed out to ensure that the branches can extend and grow better.

2. Breaking the fetus to promote budding

Short-branch Fuji trees stop growing early, have short branches, small leaf area, and are easily restricted when the fruit expands, so the fruit expansion is not good. During production, more attention should be paid to promoting branch germination and expanding leaf area to increase fruit size. When pruning, only one bud should be left every 5 to 7 buds, as weak flower buds may break the embryo. This will not only reduce excessive consumption of nutrients by flower buds, but also promote medium and short branches, increase leaf area, and make the fruit better quality.

3. Pruning branches

If there are too many branches, nutrients will be over-dispersed, which is not conducive to the growth of the tree. Therefore, the number of branches should be controlled, and the number of branches per mu should be controlled between 60,000 and 70,000. If there are too many branches, they should be pruned in time, especially the large branches and old branches after fruiting.
