How to Plant Moringa Seeds

How to Plant Moringa Seeds

1. Select seeds

Not all Moringa tree seeds germinate. When selecting seeds, pick out immature, diseased or insect-infested seeds. Use healthy and plump seeds for sowing as they are easier to grow. In addition, the development rate of fresh seeds harvested that year is higher, reaching about 90%, while old seeds can only reach 60%.

2. Germination Treatment

The seeds of the Moringa tree have a shell that can be removed, but not removing it will not affect the germination rate. The three methods generally used for germination are carbendazim, potassium permanganate or soaking in warm water. Carbendazim needs to be diluted with 1000 times water to make a dilution, and the seeds should be soaked for 4 hours. This method has a higher germination rate.

3. Pot soil preparation

The Moringa tree has strong adaptability to its growing environment and is relatively easy to grow. But if you want it to grow better, you need to use loose and fertile soil. The soil should not be too sticky, otherwise it will cause the roots to have difficulty breathing. Generally, sandy soil is suitable for planting.

4. Planting

The best time for planting is in spring. Generally, after collecting the seeds in December, they can be sown in the early spring of the following year. Place the seeds on the potting soil and press gently to a depth of about 2 cm. After sowing, water it thoroughly once, and then you can cover it with plastic film to keep it warm and moist. Generally, it will sprout after a week and then be placed in a cool place for maintenance.
