Milan pruning time and method

1. Pruning time

It is recommended to prune Milan in November, when winter is approaching. There are two main reasons for this. One is that the weather has become cooler and the air humidity has also decreased, so the number of germs will be reduced a lot. After pruning at this time, the plants are less likely to get disease. The second is that it is in a dormant state at this time and grows relatively slowly, so it is easy to shape after pruning.

2. Pruning method

1. Cut off diseased leaves: Before pruning, observe the plant first and find all the poorly growing branches and leaves, that is, dry, soft, wilted, and yellowed branches and leaves. Then prepare a pair of small scissors and cut off the branches and leaves from the base. This can allow it to save a lot of nutrients, which is beneficial for wintering and growth next year.

2. Shaping pruning: In addition to cutting off poorly growing branches, shaping pruning should also be performed at this time. The specific pruning method should be determined according to the type of plant you want it to grow into. For example, if you want it to grow into a spherical shape, you need to shorten the branches that are too long on the outside of the plant and thin out the branches that are too dense. After cutting, apply disinfectant to the cut.
