Can carnation cuttings survive without roots?

Can carnation cuttings survive without roots?

1. Can you survive?

It takes two months for carnations to take root after being cut. They can survive without roots before that, but they will not survive if they do not take roots for more than two months. After cuttings, they need to be placed in a suitable environment, and attention should be paid to temperature and humidity. If properly maintained, they are relatively easy to survive.

2. How to take cuttings

1. Select cuttings: In order to ensure the survival of the cuttings, choose carnations that are healthy and free of diseases and pests. Cut a 6-9 cm long side branch from above, keep the top 4-5 leaves, and remove the rest. Cut the bottom of the cuttings into an inclined surface to increase the area in contact with the soil, which is conducive to rooting.

2. Preparation of potting soil: If you want the cuttings to take root quickly, you need to provide a good growth environment. The potting soil should be mainly garden soil, with a little rice husk ash added. Rice husk ash can increase soil drainage and is also rich in potassium, which can provide nutrients for the growth of cuttings.

3. Carry out cuttings: After preparing the cuttings and potting soil, you can carry out cuttings. Insert the cuttings into the soil 2-3 cm deep. If you want to plant multiple branches, the distance between each branch should be about 4 cm. Water immediately after insertion and place in a cool place.

4. Subsequent maintenance: Since carnation cuttings have a long growth cycle, the temperature and light must be well controlled. The temperature should be controlled between 10-20℃ and can be covered with a plastic bag to keep warm. It is not suitable for direct sunlight at this time, and can be placed in semi-shade to receive scattered light.
