The planting prospects and high-yield cultivation techniques of Ginger

Yanghe ginger, also known as yahe, louhe, and wild ginger, is a common specialty vegetable with a unique flavor. Although the word "ginger" is in its name, it does not have the spiciness of ginger. It has a better taste and is extremely nutritious. It is known as the "Asian ginseng". So what is the prospect of Yanghe ginger cultivation ? What is planting technology? Let’s learn more about it below.

Prospects of Yanghe ginger cultivation

The planting prospects of Yanghe ginger are still very good. It has a unique flavor and can be directly shredded and fried. Most of the time, it is pickled with chili peppers in a sauerkraut jar to make kimchi . The side dishes used for it have beautiful colors and unique flavors, so many consumers are fond of it and it sells very well in the market. In addition to being edible as a vegetable, ginger also has high medicinal value. It is a pure natural dietary fiber food that can be used as both medicine and food, and therefore has good planting prospects.

Cultivation technology of ginger

1. Land preparation and fertilization

Choose high and dry terrain with sandy loam that can be drained and irrigated to plant ginger. It is not suitable to plant it in low-lying areas. Plow the soil 30-40cm deep, plant 2 rows in a 1.5m wide ridge and 1 row in a 0.9m ridge. Dig a planting ditch about 30cm deep before planting, then apply manure in the planting ditch, cover with 3-5cm of soil, and then apply phosphorus and potassium fertilizers and mix them thoroughly with the soil as base fertilizer.

2. Planting points

Ginger can be propagated by sowing seeds or by tubers. Since the germination rate of seed sowing and seedling raising is low and the seedling period is long, tuber division is generally used for propagation. The recommended sowing time is in spring and autumn every year. You can choose March and April in spring, and October in autumn.

3. Planting method

First, cut the rhizomes of the Atractylodes macrocephala into several pieces, each piece should have at least 2-3 young shoots, these tubers are the seed tubers. Then dig a 10 cm deep trench in the ground, apply base fertilizer lightly at the bottom of the trench, and then water the soil. One hour after watering, the seed blocks can be arranged in the ditch, one block every 60 cm. After arranging, cover the seed blocks with wet soil, and the sowing of Yanghe is completed.

4. Post-planting management

After the seedlings emerge in spring every year, combine tillage and weeding with a topdressing of diluted manure water to promote the healthy and uniform growth of the seedlings. Every year before the buds emerge from the soil, bud fertilizer should be applied again to promote bud enlargement and improve quality and yield. Before wintering, deep plowing and application of 2000-3000 kg of farmyard manure and 50 kg of compound fertilizer per mu should be carried out to ensure the safety of the plants over the winter and increase the yield in the next year.

5. Harvest at the right time

The ginger should be picked off after the buds emerge from the soil but before they bloom. Harvesting too early will result in good quality but low yield. Harvesting too late will cause the fibers to become coarser and the variety to become inferior. Generally, 1000-1500 kg of young buds can be harvested per mu.

In general, ginger is a popular specialty vegetable and can also be used as medicine, so its planting prospects are very promising. It is also very easy to plant. You can directly sow the stems of the ginger.
