Can avocado seeds be planted? How to plant avocado seeds?

1. Can the seeds be planted?

Avocado seeds can be planted and are often propagated by sowing. The seeds are usually collected when the fruit skin turns yellow. Cut it off together with the fruit stalk and pile it indoors for 7-8 days so that the surface will soften and the seeds can be taken out. After taking it out, it needs to be cleaned, placed in a cool place to dry, and then preserved with sand.

2. Planting Method

1. Sowing time: Avocado is native to tropical regions and is generally sown as soon as it is harvested in the producing areas, while in other places it is mostly sown in spring. This plant prefers warm climates and is afraid of high temperatures, so it cannot be planted in summer. Moreover, its cold resistance is relatively poor, and low temperatures will inhibit its growth, so it is not sown in winter.

2. Early germination: Avocado seeds need to be germinated in advance before planting. The germination method is relatively simple. Insert toothpicks into the seeds from four directions and place them on the glass bottle to prevent them from falling. Add an appropriate amount of water into the bottle so that one-third of the core is immersed in the water. Change the water once a day and they will sprout soon.

3. Sowing: Avocados need to be planted in a place with deep, loose and fertile soil. If planted in a pot, you need to find a taller pot, spread gravel on the bottom, and then fill it with sandy loam. Place the seeds on the surface and cover them with potting soil, leaving one-third exposed. Once it is watered thoroughly, it will continue to grow.

4. Subsequent maintenance: After sowing the avocado, it needs to be properly shaded to avoid direct sunlight. Water frequently to keep the soil moist; too dry a soil is not conducive to the development of seedlings. After it grows out, it can be exposed to light appropriately and the temperature should be controlled between 16-27℃, which will be more helpful for the growth of the plant.
