How to manage azalea in winter and why the leaves turn yellow

1. Winter management

1. Temperature: When azalea is wintering, the temperature should not be too low and it should be kept in an environment of 8-10℃. Generally, if you keep it indoors, you should move it indoors when the temperature drops, and it should not be exposed to cold wind. If you cannot move it outdoors, you can cover it with plastic film to keep it warm.

2. Water: The growth of the plant will slow down during the winter, so it will not absorb as much water as during the growth period. You should reduce the frequency of watering, generally watering once a week or so is sufficient. If you water too much, the soil will be too wet and the roots will rot. You can use rainwater or snow water for watering, but the water temperature should not be too low.

3. Fertilization: Fertilization is usually not required in winter, but it should be applied once in January to accumulate nutrients for flowering in spring.

4. Pruning: Pruning and shaping can be done during the winter, mainly to cut off the dense branches, as well as the dead branches, weak branches and diseased branches. The shape of the plant will be better after pruning.

2. Reasons for yellowing leaves

There is not only one reason why leaves turn yellow. Too little watering, too low temperature, too much light intensity, or alkaline soil during maintenance will cause the leaves of the plant to turn yellow. To find out the specific cause, you need to perform routine maintenance and then solve it in a targeted manner.
