Which month is best for planting cantaloupe?

Muskmelon is widely grown in all provinces of my country. The more common producing areas are Heilongjiang, Guangdong, Yunnan, Fujian, Jiangsu, Shandong, Hebei and other places. Due to regional differences, the planting time of muskmelon is also different. So which month is the best for planting cantaloupe? Let’s take a look with the editor below.

1. Which month is the best for planting cantaloupe?

The planting time of cantaloupe varies depending on regional climate differences, but generally speaking, late spring and early summer are the best times to plant cantaloupe . Specifically, the northern regions usually sow in late April to early May, while the southern regions can advance to late March to early April.

During this period, the temperature gradually rises and the light gradually increases, which is conducive to the growth and development of cantaloupe. At the same time, the rainfall is moderate at this time, which will not cause the soil to be too wet or too dry, which is conducive to the growth of the melon roots and the absorption of nutrients.

2. Cantaloupe planting method

1. Seed selection

When planting cantaloupe, you can choose some high-quality seeds that are undamaged, disease-free, plump and shiny, and have strong adaptability.

2. Seed treatment

Place the selected seeds on a clean paper and expose them to the sun for one or two days in a well-lit place. Finally, soak them in a low-concentration carbendazim solution for about 10 minutes or in hot water at about 58 degrees for half an hour. Finally, take them out and drain the water, then soak them in warm water at about 30 degrees for five or six hours. It is best to rub off the mucus on the seeds, take them out, wrap them in wet cotton cloth and place them in an environment of about 30 degrees. They will sprout in a few days.

3. Sowing method

Muskmelon seedlings can be grown by direct seeding and in nutrient bags. Direct seeding is the most common method. Specifically, dig a hole about 5 cm wide and 8 cm deep at a row spacing of 60 cm and a plant spacing of 50 cm. Then sprinkle two or three seeds in each hole, cover with soil, and water with a small amount of water.

4. Transplanting and planting

Transplant the seedlings when they have three true leaves. When the seedlings have three true leaves, they can be transplanted when they are 30-35 days old. Move out the seedlings with their roots and soil, and pick out the weak or dead seedlings. Finally, transplant the seedlings with good growth into the soil.

The above is an introduction to the best months for planting cantaloupe. The planting time for cantaloupe is generally from August to October, and no later than November. Spring sowing is in February and March. When the seedlings grow to 3 leaves, they are transplanted. It is better to choose sandy soil with thick soil layer, fertile and loose soil for planting.
