When does camellia bloom? Should the camellia be picked after it withers?

1. In what season does it bloom?

It blooms in winter and spring. It usually starts to bloom around November in the winter and lasts until around March of the following spring. However, it has many varieties, and the specific flowering period is affected by the variety and region. In the southern region, the climate is warmer and the flowers will bloom earlier, possibly around October. The temperature in northern regions is much lower, and flowering may be delayed until December. In addition, if you want it to bloom as scheduled, you must pay attention to pre-flowering management to ensure nutrients and sufficient light.

2. Should flowers be picked after they wither?

After its flowers fade, they should be picked off in time, and all the withered flowers and buds should be removed. This not only saves nutrient consumption, promotes the extension of the flowering period of other flowers, but also improves its ornamental value. At the same time, pruning should be carried out to shorten some overly long branches, cut off weak branches, diseased and insect-infested branches, and branches that are too dense, and cut them directly from the base. This can increase light transmission and ventilation, which is beneficial to later recovery.

3. Management after flower withering

After the camellia fades, it should not only be pruned as soon as possible, but also fertilized and watered. Nitrogen fertilizer can be used. After application, water should be used to dilute it to avoid damage to the roots due to high concentration. If it is potted, it is recommended to remove the pot and change the soil after flowering. Replace the new soil and re-care for it. This way, the plant will grow more vigorously and bloom better in the later stage.
