How many mandarin orange trees can be planted per acre of land?

The sugar orange, also known as the October orange, is one of the best-selling citrus fruits , mainly due to its high sugar content. In terms of production, Satsuma mandarin oranges have the advantages of early fruiting, high yield, sweet fruit, and low residue. They are in line with the consumption needs of the Chinese people and have a relatively ideal market prospect. So, how many Satsuma mandarin oranges can be planted per acre of land? Let’s take a look below.

1. How many mandarin orange trees can be planted per acre of land?

80 to 300 mandarin orange trees can be planted in one acre of land. This number is influenced by a number of factors:

Conventional planting: When the soil fertility is moderate, it is recommended to plant 80 to 110 trees per acre.

High-density planting: If advanced planting techniques are used, the number of trees planted per acre can be increased to 150 to 200, or even 200 to 300 trees23. But please note that too high density may affect the growth and yield of fruit trees.

When planting, factors such as soil, variety, and technology should be comprehensively considered, and the planting density should be scientifically planned.

2. Satsuma orange planting technology

1. Planting time: February to March every year.

2. Planting land: Choose a place with high fertility and sufficient water resources for planting.

3. Before planting, first apply base fertilizer, then apply phosphorus fertilizer or livestock manure and urine water after digging the pit.

4. After land preparation, plant the seedlings in the soil, and then trim the overlong branches and main roots.

5. Three days after planting, if there is little rainfall, you can choose to water every day.

6. After the plant has survived for a period of time, the branches need to be pruned to improve the survival rate.

3. Mandarin orange planting management

1. Water and fertilizer management

(1) Watering: Water according to the season and temperature. In summer, the watering intervals should be shorter, the watering frequency should be more frequent, and the amount of watering should not be too much.

(2) Fertilization: You can use decomposed livestock manure and an appropriate amount of nitrogen fertilizer and apply them together for fertilization.

2. Prune branches and leaves

(1) When the tree is young, prune the extended part of the main branch. In adulthood, just prune the areas with dense foliage.

(2) When there are a large number of flowers, they need to be pruned, mainly to increase the fruiting rate.

3. Pest and disease control

(1) Scale insects: Use the pesticide thiamethoxam to kill them during the nymph stage.

(2) Aphids: Prune branches that have aphid eggs.

(3) Leafminer: Use avermectin for spraying and control, once every 7 days, and continue for 2-3 times.
