How to take care of the newly bought golden banyan

How to take care of the newly bought golden banyan

1. Lighting

Ficus microcarpa likes light, especially strong light. Therefore, if you keep it at home, you must let it get more sunlight. If there is sufficient light, the color of the leaves of the plant will be bright, but if there is insufficient light, the color of the leaves will become lighter and lighter, affecting the ornamental value.

2. Temperature

The golden fig is particularly afraid of frost. The most suitable growth temperature for it is 20-32℃. The indoor maintenance temperature in winter must not be lower than 15℃, otherwise the golden fig is particularly susceptible to frost. When the frost damage is serious, the plant will lose leaves and become a bare stem.

3. Watering

Ficus microcarpa likes moisture and is afraid of dryness, but the soil cannot be allowed to accumulate water. You can observe the soil surface turning white and dry, and water it in time until water flows out from the bottom of the pot. In well-ventilated conditions, you can frequently spray water on the leaf surface of the plant to increase humidity.

4. Fertilization

Fertilizing the golden banyan tree should be done during the plant's growth period, and a balanced fertilizer of nitrogen, phosphorus and potassium should be applied once a month. Stop applying nitrogen fertilizer in late autumn. Applying more phosphorus and potassium fertilizers can enhance the plant's frost resistance. Applying more potassium fertilizers can also promote brighter leaf color. Stop fertilizing in winter.

5. Pests and diseases

In seasons of high temperature and high humidity, the banyan tree is prone to black mold and anthracnose. You can spray it with carbendazim once every half a month for prevention. In a poorly ventilated environment, scale insects and red spiders are prone to breed, which can be controlled with Acaricide and Dapoxetine.

6. Note

The leaves of the golden fig are colorful and particularly beautiful, but the juice in the plant is poisonous, so when growing it at home, you must avoid accidental ingestion by humans and animals. Households with children should be especially careful. It is recommended to grow it in an outdoor potted plant.
