When should fennel be sown?

Fennel is a common vegetable with a special flavor. It is often used as a stuffing and is deeply loved by consumers. So when should fennel be sown? Let’s learn about the planting time of fennel.

When should fennel be sown?

The fennel planting time can be divided into two times: spring and autumn according to your needs. The spring planting time is around March and April. The air temperature and ground temperature at this time are relatively stable, which is very suitable for sowing fennel. Fennel can be sown in autumn in September or October, when the temperature begins to cool, which is also a good time to sow fennel.

Fennel planting technology

1. Land consolidation

Fennel has low requirements for its growing environment, but to achieve a high yield of fennel, it is best to choose fertile, well-drained sandy soil. Apply sufficient fertilizer before planting fennel, and choose fully rotted farmyard manure. After applying the base fertilizer, deep plowing and land preparation can be carried out for planting.

2. Planting

Fennel seeds are small and light. Direct sowing can easily result in uneven planting. In order to make fennel grow evenly, you can add an appropriate amount of sand to the seeds to ensure uniform sowing. Water sufficiently before sowing, cover with a thin layer of soil after sowing the fennel seeds , and spray water in the morning and evening to increase the germination rate of fennel. Fennel will start to grow in about 7 days after sowing.

3. Seedling management

Fennel grows slowly in the early stages and faster in the later stages. In order to promote yield and quality, it is necessary to supplement sufficient nutrients in the early stages to promote growth. In addition, weeds should be prevented and controlled, and water and fertilizer application should be controlled in the later stage.

4. Harvest

The best harvest height for fennel is about 20 cm and it can be harvested once or twice. Fennel can be harvested multiple times and requires more soil nutrients during its growth period. After every two harvests, 20 kg of high-nitrogen compound fertilizer should be applied per mu of land. If fennel is to be harvested twice, cut the fennel stems one centimeter from the soil. Water and fertilize in time 2-3 days after harvest to promote the second growth of fennel.
