How to make hydrangea bloom and what to do after it blooms

How to make hydrangea bloom and what to do after it blooms

1. How to make hydrangea bloom

1. Light: Hydrangeas are afraid of excessive sunlight, but lack of light will affect their flowering. Pay attention to shading and sun protection in summer, expose them to the sun in the morning and evening in spring and autumn, maintain them with scattered light at noon, and maintain them in full sunlight in winter. Plant them in the ground in the corner of the wall or under the shade of trees.

2. Fertilizer and water: During the growing period of hydrangea, you can apply diluted liquid fertilizer made from fermented bean cake and chicken manure every 2-3 weeks to promote plant growth and flower bud differentiation. In the early stage of flowering of hydrangea, apply phosphorus and potassium fertilizers such as bone meal and chicken manure to promote flowering.

3. Temperature: If you want hydrangeas to bloom, you can place the plants in an environment of 5-7℃ for 6-8 weeks, and then place the hydrangeas in an environment of 20℃ to promote flowering. After the flower buds appear, maintain the maintenance temperature at 16-18℃. The hydrangeas will bloom in about two weeks.

2. How to deal with it after flowering

1. The most common hydrangea is the large-flowered hydrangea. Only old branches of this type of hydrangea can bloom, so every time the plant flowers fade, it is necessary to prune it in time, and the pruning must be completed before the end of August each year. Otherwise, the flower buds of the hydrangea will differentiate in September, and if you prune it again, there will be no flowers to see the next year.

2. When pruning, cut off the withered flowers and the two pairs of leaves under the flowers. After pruning, the hydrangea will grow two plump buds in the axils of the leaves at the top of the branches. One branch will become two branches, and the hydrangea will bloom like crazy on the old branches next year.
