Common vegetable diseases and their control measures

Various diseases may occur in the process of vegetable cultivation, the most common ones include ring rot, gray mold, early blight, anthracnose, vine blight, circular rot, gray spot, black spot, etc. Let’s learn about common vegetable diseases and prevention measures.

1. Ring rot

Cowpea ring rot: In the early stage of the disease, you can choose to spray with pesticides such as foconazole and chloranil, benomyl + mancozeb , fenpropimorph + captan, myclobutanil + mancozeb, and fenpropimorph·prochloraz.

Lettuce ring rot: Thiophanate-methyl, Thiophanate-methyl, Iprodione, etc., spray once every 7-10 days, and spray 2-3 times in a row.

Eggplant brown ring rot: In the early stage of the disease, you can choose myclobutanil, pyraclostrobin, fenpropimorph, cypermethrin, methyl thiophanate + thiophanate-methyl, etc., once every 7 to 10 days depending on the severity of the disease.

2. Botrytis cinerea

Tomato gray mold: The leaves of mature plants are infected, mostly spreading in a V-shape from the tip of the leaf inward. They are water-soaked in the early stage, and yellow or brown in the later stage, with irregular ring patterns of alternating light and dark colors.

Eggplant gray mold: The disease occurs on leaves, usually on the leaf surface or leaf edges, producing irregular or V-shaped spots with brown and light brown ring-shaped spots on them. When the humidity is high, the spots are densely covered with gray mold.

Chemical control: Fosetyl-Al, Ethosyl-Carbendazim, Carbendazim and other agents.

3. Early blight

The disease occurs in the seedling stage, and dark brown spots with ring patterns appear at the base of the stems of the seedlings. In the adult stage, the disease usually develops from the leaves to the upper parts. Initially, the leaves appear as dark green water-soaked spots, which expand into circular or irregular ring-shaped spots with light green or yellow halos around the edges.

Chemical control: methyl thiophanate, mancozeb, iprodione, thiophanate-methyl, fenpropimorph, etc.

4. Anthrax

The disease can occur in fruits and vegetables throughout their growing period. It mainly harms fruits, leaves and stems. At the early stage of the disease, water-soaked chlorotic spots appear on the leaves, which gradually turn into brown spots with ring-like black spots and brown edges, and the diseased leaves fall off easily.

Chemical control: prochloraz, mancozeb, myclobutanil, thiophanate- methyl, copper rosinate, pyrimidine nucleotide antibiotics, diniconazole, carbendazim, fosetyl-Al, thiophanate-methyl and other agents.

5. Vine blight

Watermelon vine blight: The disease occurs on leaves, forming large round or oval light brown to gray-brown spots. The spots are easy to break when dry and have dense small black spots on them. When it is moist, the spots spread all over the leaves, and the leaves turn black and die.

Melon vine blight: In the early stage of leaf infection, yellow-brown V-shaped spots with unclear rings appear on the leaf edges, and then the entire leaf dies.

Cucumber vine blight: The spots on the leaves are nearly circular or irregular in shape, and some are V-shaped from the leaf edge inward. They are light brown in color. In the later stage, the spots are easy to break and dry up to be yellow-brown to reddish-brown.

Chemical control: In the seedling stage, you can use fenpropimorph or dimethoate for root irrigation. In the early stage of the disease, you can use fenpropimorph·myclobutanil or myclobutanil, thiophanate-methyl, and pyrazole·mancozeb for spraying.
