Causes and treatments for yellow elm leaves

Causes and treatments for yellow elm leaves

1. Insufficient light

Reason: Elm trees love light and prefer to grow in sunny places. Especially during its growing season in summer, only sufficient light can enable it to carry out sufficient photosynthesis and promote its metabolism. If there is not enough light, photosynthesis will be insufficient and the leaves will become lighter and yellower.

Measures: You can move it to a place with longer sunlight hours, such as the roof, so that it can receive full sunlight. However, you still need to be careful to block the strong direct sunlight at noon, otherwise it will burn the plants.

2. Excessive water

Reason: Elm trees are afraid of moisture, and the soil should not contain too much moisture. They prefer a drier environment. If you water too much or leave it outdoors in the rain for a long time without draining the water regularly, it will hinder the breathing of the roots. This causes the roots to rot, and the leaves will slowly turn yellow and then fall off.

Measures: The plant needs to be removed from the pot, the rotten roots cut off, and then the soil needs to be changed and replanted. In subsequent maintenance, you need to pay attention to water control and reduce the frequency and amount of watering. Wait until the soil in the pot is dry before watering it to moisten the soil.

3. Insufficient nutrients

Reason: After the elm tree is planted, if the soil is not changed or some organic fertilizer is not applied for one or two years, the growth of the elm tree will lack some trace elements. The soil will become increasingly poor and lack nutrients, and the leaves will naturally turn yellow slowly.

Measures: You can water it with micro-fertilizer. You can also directly replace it with soil suitable for its growth and apply some base fertilizer. In the subsequent maintenance, you can change the soil every one or two years to ensure that the soil can meet its growth conditions.

4. Metabolism

Reason: Metabolism is a natural phenomenon of plant growth. If the above reasons are ruled out, the yellow leaves may be caused by the normal metabolism of the plant.

Measures: Don’t worry about the normal alternation of new and old leaves, just continue with normal maintenance.
