How to care for the cycads in winter and what to do if they get frostbitten

1. How to keep the cycads in winter

1. Get more sun: The light in winter is warm and soft, so domesticated Euphorbia obesa must get more sun. The more light there is, the more nutrients the plant can accumulate for photosynthesis, which is more beneficial for the plant to safely overwinter.

2. Keep warm and increase temperature: Oxytropis philadelphica likes warmth and is afraid of cold. If the temperature is lower than 7℃ in winter, Oxytropis philadelphica is prone to frost damage. Therefore, it must be kept indoors during the winter. It is best to ensure that the maintenance temperature is 15-28℃.

3. Control watering: As a succulent plant of the Cactaceae family, the plant itself is particularly drought-resistant. In addition, the temperature is low in winter, so the domesticated Ophiopogon japonicus should be watered less. You must wait until the soil in the pot is completely dry before watering, and watering should be done when the temperature is highest at noon.

4. Do not apply fertilizer: In winter, when the temperature is low, do not apply fertilizer. The temperature is low and the Cyperus rotundus is in a dormant state. Even if you apply fertilizer, the plant cannot absorb it, which may cause fertilizer damage and be counterproductive.

2. What to do if your ruler is frostbitten

When growing Oxyphylla in winter, if it is accidentally frostbitten, move the plant to a room with a temperature of about 10℃. After two days, move it to a place with a higher temperature and increase the temperature little by little to give the Oxyphylla time to adapt to the environment. If the frost damage is minor, the plant will recover after the above operations. If the frost damage is severe, the completely frozen areas need to be cut off, carbendazim should be applied to the wounds, and the plants should be placed in a ventilated and dry place for maintenance.
