Main diseases of freesia and their prevention and treatment methods

Mosaic

symptom

Brown spots appear on the leaves, alternating between brown and green. In severe cases, the plants become short, shrink and turn yellow, and the bulbs degenerate, affecting flowering.

Prevention and treatment methods

Once diseased plants are found, remove them immediately to avoid attracting insects to suck the sap and spread through friction.

If conditions permit, choosing non-toxic seedlings for propagation during planting can reduce bulb degeneration to a certain extent.

Pay attention to the prevention and control of aphids. Mosaic disease and aphids are often transmitted together. When aphids are found, spray them with omethoate in time.

Sclerotinia

symptom

When freesia is infected with sclerotinia, the leaves will turn light yellow, the plant growth will slow down, and the leaves will gradually fall off. The inside of the bulb changes color and gradually rots. White sclerotia will grow between the scales. The sclerotium is white at first and gradually turns into brown-black.

Prevention and treatment methods

Check the health of the bulbs promptly and remove and destroy any diseases found.

Contaminated soil should be heated and disinfected in time. If the condition is serious, it can be directly thrown away and replaced with new soil.

When planting, sprinkle pentachloronitrobenzene powder around the bulbs and then cover them with soil, which can reduce the occurrence of sclerotinia disease to a certain extent.

When the disease occurs, spray 800 times diluted 50% thiocarb wettable powder for killing.

Root rot

symptom

The plant is mainly infected during the growing season, and the leaves begin to wither and die. When storing bulbs, they tend to rot and become dry and hard.

Prevention and treatment methods

Once the plant is infected, in mild cases, spray 500 times the concentration of Zineb solution. If the rot is severe and the bulbs have seriously degraded, throw them away directly.
