Common diseases and prevention methods of honeysuckle

The main diseases and pests of honeysuckle are brown spot disease, white rot and powdery mildew.

Honeysuckle brown spot

Brown spot is a fungal disease. After the disease occurs, the spots on the leaves are round or polygonal due to the limitation of leaf veins, yellowish-brown in color, and gray mold grows on the back when wet. The disease is more severe in July and August .

Prevention and control methods: Remove diseased branches and fallen leaves to reduce the source of pathogens; strengthen cultivation management, increase the application of organic fertilizers, and enhance disease resistance; spray with 3% 50 mg/kg solution of Jinggangmycin or 1 : 1.5 : 200 Bordeaux mixture at the early stage of the disease, once every 7 to 10 days , for 2 to 3 times in a row.

Honeysuckle Sclerotium rot

White rot mainly harms the rhizomes. It is prone to occur in high temperatures and heavy rains, with a low incidence rate in young flower stumps and a high incidence rate in old flower stumps.

Prevention and control methods: In spring and autumn, dig up the soil and dry the roots, scrape the roots, water with Bordeaux liquid, and dig 30 cm deep trenches around the diseased plants to prevent the spread.

Honeysuckle powdery mildew

Powdery mildew is a common disease of seedlings and flowers, which mainly harms new shoots and tender branches.

Prevention and control methods: Apply organic fertilizer to improve disease resistance; strengthen pruning to improve ventilation and light conditions; combine winter pruning to try to remove diseased buds and overwintering fungi sources; in early spring, when scales crack and leaves have not yet unfolded, spray 0.1 to 0.2 degrees Baume lime sulfur mixture.
