What to do if roses don't bloom

What to do if roses don't bloom

1. Reduce watering

Reason: If the environment is suitable for rose growth and there is sufficient water and fertilizer, the plant will easily grow without blooming.

Solution: Water less frequently and keep the soil dry. This can promote the differentiation of flower buds and allow it to use nutrients for flowering. The leaves tend to wilt at this time, but this is normal, so don't worry.

2. Increase Lighting

Reason: Insufficient light will cause insufficient photosynthesis of roses, lack of nutrients for growth, and thus failure to bloom.

Solution: Place the rose in a sunny spot. Since its flowering period is mostly in summer, strong light can easily burn the leaves. Therefore, the lighting time should be chosen in the early morning or evening, and appropriate shade can be provided to avoid exposure to the sun.

3. Pruning and thinning buds

Reason: The branches and leaves are too dense, and there are too many flower buds, resulting in insufficient nutrient supply and inability to bloom.

Solution: Prune dead and weak branches in time, and also thin out some overly dense branches. Pick an appropriate amount of flower buds from each branch, leaving about 3 on old branches and only 1 on new branches.

4. Prevention and control of diseases and pests

Reason: Some pests and diseases can attack the rose buds, causing it not to bloom.

Solution: Check for pest infestation. Prune and destroy diseased or insect-infested branches, and use pesticides to kill larvae. At the same time, add some fertilizer to help it resume growth. However, pesticides such as dichlorvos and malathion cannot be used as they are very harmful to roses.
