How to grow shallots on the balcony

Material preparation

Onion roots, flower pots, garden soil, shovel, watering can

Planting method

Seedling selection

Chives can be grown directly from the market and eaten without being processed. When buying onions, choose those with fresh green leaves, and most importantly, with intact roots and a little bit of soil retained.

deal with

Cut off the leaves from the top and eat them, and don't throw the remaining roots directly into the trash can. Leave some more green onion when cutting, so that it will be easier to plant and survive.

Prepare a basin

Chives are not very particular about the choice of pot, any container will do as long as the space is large enough. If you have some flowers and plants at home, you can plant them together if there is space. This can save space and prevent pests and diseases.

Planting

Dig a hole in the pot, put the onion in, cover it with some soil, count 12345 , and you're done. To facilitate later maintenance, flatten the soil with your hands to prevent the roots from being exposed when watering.

Maintenance

After planting, water it sufficiently and place it in the sun. As long as the temperature is not below 0 ℃ in winter, the survival rate is over 90% .

After a week, the onion will grow new shoots, so it is necessary to apply fertilizer in time. It is recommended to apply organic fertilizer if you grow it at home for your own consumption.

When eating, just pinch it off instead of pulling it up by the roots. This ensures that you can continue to eat it next time. It is simple and convenient, and it can also add a touch of green to your home garden.
