How to care for the newly bought Schefflera

How to care for the newly bought Schefflera

1. Soil

Schefflera does not have high requirements for soil. If the soil quality is too poor when you first buy it, you can change the soil, but try not to knock off the soil at the roots and replace the surrounding soil. Use relatively loose and fertile soil to increase the soil's air permeability and drainage. If the soil ball is of good quality, you can just change the pot, and it would be better to add some thin fertilizer at the bottom. If the roots are damaged when repotting, the soil and roots should be disinfected in time to avoid infection by bacteria.

2. Temperature and light

When you first buy it, you need to give it a comfortable environment. An environment with good ventilation and suitable temperature is more conducive to its growth. The average temperature of the environment should be around 20℃. Avoid direct sunlight, otherwise it may cause problems such as leaf drying.

3. Watering

It is best not to water it too much when you just buy it. It is a water-loving plant, but when it first adapts to the environment, its roots absorb water slowly. Watering it too much will cause its roots to become waterlogged and rot. After adapting to the environment, water it normally and water it again after the soil is dry. You can spray water appropriately to increase the humidity of the leaves, which is beneficial to the growth of the plants.

4. Fertilization

Don't rush to fertilize when you just buy it, otherwise it may cause root rot. After it adapts to the environment, you can apply some decomposed fertilizer regularly to promote its growth. You can also apply some liquid fertilizer appropriately, but do not apply too much fertilizer to avoid root burn.

5. Pruning

Prune it in time. If the branches and leaves inside the plant are too dense, it is best to trim some of them to increase internal ventilation and light transmission. Prune away crooked branches and poorly growing branches to keep the tree in good shape.
