When do lemons ripen and how long can they be kept?

1. Maturity Time

Lemon does not have a fixed flowering period. It can bloom in spring, summer and autumn, so the time when the fruit matures is also different. Generally, spring-flowering fruit trees are ripe and can be picked in late October to mid-November, but summer-flowering fruit trees have to wait until late December or early January of the following year to be harvested. Autumn-flowering fruit trees generally mature in June or July of the following year.

2. How long to keep

Lemons can be stored at room temperature for about a month. If the oxygen concentration is low and the carbon dioxide concentration is higher than 10%, although it can be stored for a period of time, it will affect its taste and cause its sourness to decrease. If the oxygen content is lower than 5%, it will easily change its taste.

3. How to keep fresh

1. Plastic wrap: Cover the cut surface of the lemon with plastic wrap, or put it directly into a plastic bag and put it in the refrigerator. It can be stored for about 1 week.

2. Honey soak: Slice the lemon and put it in a dry glass container. Then pour honey into it, or put a slice and sprinkle some white sugar, and finally cover it with a lid. Store it in the refrigerator and it will keep for up to two weeks.

3. Slice and freeze: First slice the lemon, then spread it flat on a plate and place it in the freezer. After it is frozen, take it out and transfer it to a fresh-keeping box, and continue to store it in the freezer. This method can preserve it for a long time and it can be used at any time. If you have unused ice cubes at home, you can also cut them into small pieces, put them in the ice cubes, fill them with water and put them in the freezer. This freezing method can also preserve food for a long time.
