When does the Epiphyllum bloom? Pictures of Epiphyllum

1. When to open

Epiphyllum blooms only once a year, between June and October. If it blooms from June to August, it usually blooms between 9 and 10 p.m. and withers between 3 and 4 a.m. If it blooms in September or October, the opening time can be advanced to 8 o'clock, and it will also last until 3 or 4 o'clock in the morning, and can bloom for 8-9 hours.

2. What does flowering look like?

Epiphyllum is usually solitary, mostly growing in small nests on the sides of branches. Its flowers are funnel-shaped, with a diameter of between 10-12 cm, and emit a very fragrant smell. Its receptacle is green and has triangular scales. Sepals are greenish white or light amber and linear in shape. The petals are white, mostly obovate, and about 7-10 cm long.

3. How to promote flowering

1. Increase light: Although Epiphyllum blooms at night, insufficient light during the day will affect its flower bud differentiation and is not conducive to photosynthesis and nutrient storage, so it should be placed in a sunny place to allow it to receive sufficient light.

2. Supplement fertilizer: Epiphyllum likes fertilizer. If the soil lacks nutrients, it will not be able to bloom. Usually, sufficient base fertilizer should be applied when planting and repotting. During its growth period, apply decomposed cake fertilizer water once every half a month.

3. Proper pruning: If the Epiphyllum grows too tall, its demand for nutrients will increase, making it difficult to bloom. At this time, the plants need to be pruned, which can not only reduce nutrient consumption, but also increase ventilation and light transmission, creating favorable conditions for the plants to bloom.
