How to grow large-leaf gardenia

soil

Large-leaf gardenia has strict requirements on soil, and the pH of the soil must be between 5-6. However, the soil in the north is alkaline or neutral. In this kind of soil, iron salts are difficult to dissolve in water and cannot be absorbed by plants, causing iron deficiency in plants. Iron deficiency will block the synthesis of chlorophyll, hinder photosynthesis, and cause plant death. Therefore, suitable soil is important. During the 10-15 days of the growing period, watering with black alum water once can also ensure the iron requirements of gardenia.

humidity

Large-leaf gardenia likes a humid environment. Keep the soil in the pot moist and increase the air humidity appropriately. The spring in the north is dry, with long northwest winds. The summer is strong in sunlight and water evaporates quickly. The winter is cold and dry. Therefore, in spring and summer, you should spray water on the leaves and sprinkle water on the surrounding ground to increase the air humidity. Water less in winter and spray the branches and leaves frequently to ensure the leaf surface is clean.

illumination

Large-leaf gardenia likes light, but is afraid of strong light. If exposed to strong light, the leaves will turn yellow, white and fall off. Especially in summer, it should be placed on a shaded balcony or in a place with scattered light for maintenance. It can be moved to the sun in the morning and evening to receive light to prevent the leaves from turning yellow.

temperature

Unlike small potted varieties, large-leaf gardenia has poor cold resistance and should be moved indoors for maintenance in winter. It is usually moved indoors in mid-October and placed on a sunny and well-ventilated balcony, maintaining the room temperature at 10~12℃. Move outdoors in late April of the following year.

It is not difficult to care for flowers. If you do the above four points, the large-leaf gardenia can not only find a home in the north, but also have green leaves and abundant flowers, and be full of fragrance.
