Cultivation methods and precautions of Asarum

How to cultivate Asarum

soil

For potted Asarum, you can choose deep, fertile, humus-rich, well-drained sandy soil. When transplanting Asarum into pots, appropriate base fertilizer needs to be added to the soil.

Light and temperature

Asarum prefers a cool and semi-shady growing environment. It is cold-resistant, heat-averse and afraid of strong light, and grows better in a shaded environment. The suitable temperature for growth is between 20℃ and 25℃. When the temperature is higher than 35℃ in summer, the plant is likely to wither. It can withstand low temperatures in winter and can survive in temperatures below zero. During the growth of Asarum, it is better to maintain a certain shade condition, but do not isolate it from sunlight. In summer, the sun is strong and needs to be shaded in time.

Watering and fertilizing

After planting Asarum, the soil needs to be kept moist, so it needs to be watered in time. When the soil is dry, it needs to be watered in time. When applying fertilizer, in fact, Asarum does not need to be fertilized frequently. Apply base fertilizer at the time of planting, and then apply top dressing. Generally, top dressing is required twice a year, in late spring and early autumn.

Reproduction method

When propagating Asarum, the main method is sowing. It can also be propagated by division and by using rhizomes.

Precautions for breeding of Asarum

Pests and diseases

The diseases of Asarum are mainly sclerotinia disease, which is mostly caused by improper maintenance. It is necessary to strengthen management and do a good job of prevention and control. The main pests include small cutworms, locusts, black caterpillars, swallowtail butterflies and other pests, which harm the plants and need to be sprayed with pesticides in time.

Shading

Asarum needs a shaded environment to grow well. Generally, 50% light is enough, and a shade shed can be built if necessary.
