Growth habits of different ivy species

Habit of Hedera helix

Yellow-spotted ivy is a type of ivy. It likes bright light and is afraid of direct light. Under direct light, the color of the leaves will fade, and in severe cases, they will be burned. Therefore, it is best to grow it in a semi-shaded environment.

Yellow-leaf ivy likes moisture and has poor drought resistance. It easily dries up when the air humidity is low. It likes a cool environment, is not resistant to high temperatures but can tolerate cold. The suitable temperature for its growth is between 18℃ and 22℃. The soil requirements are not high, and fertile and humus-rich soil is preferred.

Habit of English ivy

English ivy loves light and can tolerate direct sunlight, but the leaf color will not be bright, so it grows well in a semi-shady environment, but it will easily grow too tall if the light is too weak. English ivy likes a warm environment and is not resistant to high temperatures. The suitable temperature for its growth is between 18℃ and 20℃, but it can tolerate cold. The soil requirements are not high.

Habit of Japanese ivy

Japanese ivy prefers bright light, can tolerate partial shade, and is not very tolerant of sunlight. It likes a humid environment and requires moist air. The temperature needs to be kept between 17℃ and 21℃, and the temperature for wintering should not be lower than 6℃. The growing environment requires good ventilation.

Habit of Canary Ivy

Canary ivy requires bright light and is shade tolerant but not directly sun tolerant. It likes warm climate but is not cold-resistant. The suitable growth temperature is 18℃-20℃. It should be kept above 8℃ in winter. It is easy to suffer from frost damage if it is below 6℃.
