What soil to use for potted camellia

What soil to use for potted camellia

Principle of soil use

When growing camellia in potted plants, the choice of soil is very important. First of all, we must ensure that it is loose and breathable, has good drainage and is rich in organic matter.

Generally speaking, when preparing the soil, you should keep the ingredients simple and not too complicated. In the early stage, you need to nourish the roots first. Only when the roots are well nourished can it grow well.

Please note that the roots of camellia are not suitable for large amounts of fertilizer. Generally, newly purchased camellia should use plain soil.

Which ones are available

Generally, when choosing soil, you can choose coal slag and soak it in water for a period of time.

You can go to the mountains to dig some yellow sand and red sand. You can also dig some plain soil, which is soil that has never been used to grow anything. Pine needle soil can also be used, just dig some from under a pine tree.

After preparing the soil, don't rush to mix it, store it separately.

Preparation method

Mix sawdust, wood ash and fertilizer, then water thoroughly to allow it to decompose. This will take about 6 to 8 months. During the decomposition and fermentation period, turn it over once a month and water it appropriately.

After it is fully decomposed, add yellow sand and other ingredients to mix it, and then continue to decompose it.

Secondly, you can mix yellow sand with pine needles and coal slag, and put them in bags for composting. The composting time will be longer, generally it takes about a year to fully compost. However, the soil contains sufficient nutrients and is loose, which is very conducive to the growth of the roots of camellia.

Secondly, you can also directly choose soil specially designed for Clivia for cultivation.
