Cultivation methods and precautions of Dragon Wing Begonia

temperature

The dragon-wing begonia is suitable for a relatively warm and humid climate, but it can also tolerate heat and low temperatures. It has a good ability to adapt to temperature. The most suitable temperature for the growth of the dragon-wing begonia is about 18-25℃. If the temperature drops below zero in winter, the leaves of the dragon-wing begonia will fall off easily, but it will continue to bloom when the temperature rises. It should be noted that if the temperature exceeds 35℃, shading should be carried out immediately, and cooling should be carried out through measures such as spraying water and ventilation.

Watering

Dragon Wing Begonia likes moisture. If the weather is too dry, the leaves will easily curl up, so you should water the leaves frequently to maintain a certain humidity. However, water should not accumulate in the flowerpot, otherwise it will cause root rot; the soil in the pot should not be too dry, as lack of water will slow down the growth of the crabapple and delay the flowering period.

In spring, the dragon-wing begonia grows very fast, sprouting new branches and blooming in large numbers. At this time, you must water it quickly and do not let the dragon-wing begonia suffer from water shortage. As the temperature gradually drops in autumn, the amount of water should be controlled appropriately. In winter, the growth of the dragon-wing begonia will slowly stop. At this time, do not water it too much. Just wait until the soil in the pot is dry before watering it again.

Fertilization

Dragon-wing Begonia likes fertilizer, and you can add some superphosphate and organic fertilizer when planting. Fertilization should be applied in time during the period of vigorous growth. It is best to apply more nitrogen fertilizer during the seedling period to help the growth of flower seedlings. During the flowering period, potassium-containing fertilizers should be applied mainly once a week in small amounts and multiple times to avoid excessive fertilization that affects growth. In autumn, as the temperature drops, reduce the amount of fertilizer and stop applying fertilizer until winter.

illumination

The dragon-wing begonia is highly adaptable to light and can grow in almost any lighting environment. However, when the summer sunlight is too strong, appropriate shading is needed, just blocking 30% of the sunlight. Of course, it is best not to keep the flowers indoors for a long time without sunlight, especially for newly planted seedlings. You should pay attention to gradually increasing the length of sunlight.

Light has a great influence on the growth of the dragon-wing begonia. If the daily sunshine time is maintained at 8-10 hours, the dragon-wing begonia can bloom half a month earlier and the branches will grow horizontally; if the sunshine time is maintained for a long time, the branches will grow upright.

Pest control

Common diseases of Dragon Wing Begonia include powdery mildew, which is caused by root rot due to poor ventilation, high temperature and humidity, and overly moist soil. Spraying thiophanate-methyl or carbendazim once a week can effectively prevent and control powdery mildew. Common pests of this flower include aphids, whiteflies, red spiders, snails, etc., and prevention should be done.
