Medicinal Brocade

If you walk into any flower shop now, you will see the following succulent plants: the leaves are white or pink in the middle, or the leaves are white and green. The price of this kind of succulent plant is a little higher than the average one, and the price is about 20 yuan.

In fact, these colors are not naturally generated, but the merchants sprayed the succulents with a potion that inhibits chlorophyll and causes the succulents to "fade". The blue and green succulents turn yellow and white after being dyed; the purple succulents turn pink and white.

The merchant only needs to spray the medicine on a certain position of the succulent, and the succulent will change color successfully in about 7-10 days.

We call this kind of color-changed succulent plant "variegated succulent". It is more difficult to grow than ordinary succulents. The chlorophyll in the leaves is reduced, and the growth pattern of the entire plant is disrupted. It will die within a week after you buy it home!

Common medicinal herbs

In order to prevent you from being cheated when buying succulents, Huahua lists the common types of medicinal plants on the market. Be sure to read them carefully.

Thousand Buddha Hands: The center of the leaves is white or creamy yellow

Blue Echeveria Medicinal Varieties: The so-called Red Heart Echeveria Varieties is the blue Echeveria sprayed with medicine, and the center of the flower turns pink. Don't be fooled by these fake names.

Alocasia officinalis: The center of the leaves turns white, and the tips remain red

The small-flowered gentiana becomes lighter in color after being sprayed with medicine. It looks very beautiful, but don’t be fooled by its beauty, as it is extremely difficult to grow!

Bear's Paw Medicinal Varieties: Even the furry bear paws could not escape being drugged, the green color suddenly turned into yellow, and the leaves started to fall off after you bought them home!

Of course, merchants may also use drugs on varieties that we can't imagine, so everyone must keep their eyes open. If you encounter succulents with abnormal colors, it is best not to buy them.

What should I do after buying the medicine?

The chlorophyll of the medicinal brocade is suppressed and it cannot carry out normal photosynthesis. Now the weather is hot, and it will fail after 1-2 weeks of buying it home: the leaves fall off, it turns into water, and it turns black rot...

The more medicine you spray, the more the medicinal variegation fades. A large area of white Alocasia odora like the one below is basically hopeless. If the color change is only in a small area, it can be restored to normal through proper maintenance.

1. Keep in a cool and ventilated place and water less

After you bring the Medicinal Plant home, do not expose it to the sun. Place it in a ventilated place indoors. Do not rush to water it, as it will rot if you water it. It is best to wait 3-5 days before watering it. If you are lucky, the faded leaves will turn green again and slowly return to normal.

2. Cut off the head and re-sprout

For those medicinal brocades that only change color in the middle, you can directly cut off the discolored "head", apply some carbendazim to the wound for disinfection and sterilization, and it will sprout again after a few days of normal maintenance.
