Passion fruit planting methods and management points

Passion fruit , known as the "king of juice", is widely grown in subtropical and tropical regions. It is not only rich in nutritional value, but also has certain medicinal value. Therefore, it is very popular in the market, has a large demand, and has broad planting prospects. Let’s learn together about the planting methods and management points of passion fruit.

1. Growth environment requirements

Passion fruit has high requirements for temperature. The most suitable growth temperature is 20℃ to 30℃. The lowest temperature it can tolerate is 0℃. If it is below -2℃, it may suffer from frost damage.

2. Land Selection and Arrangement

Passion fruit is highly adaptable and can grow in a variety of soil types, including sandy loam and red loam. Orchards should be avoided in low-lying areas. Orchard planning should rationally layout the cultivation areas and facilities. When preparing the land, combine organic and inorganic fertilizers to improve soil nutrients.

3. Scaffolding work

As a climbing plant, passion fruit needs a trellis to support its growth. Trellising not only improves growth efficiency, but also facilitates fruit picking, provides ample growing space, and reduces the occurrence of diseases and pests. The scaffolding method should be selected according to the terrain and actual conditions.

4. Finalization work

After the passion fruit grows stably, it is necessary to remove the axillary buds on the main vine in time to promote the growth of branches and trunks. Keep 2-3 branches per plant to ensure even growth. Young and old trees also need to be shaped to improve growth efficiency.

5. Management Technology

Passion fruit grows fast and requires a lot of fertilizer. Fertilization is mainly organic fertilizer, supplemented by chemical fertilizer, and the proportion of nutrients and trace elements is reasonably adjusted. Be careful to control the amount of nitrogen fertilizer used to avoid inhibiting growth. Passion fruit has shallow roots and likes moisture but is afraid of waterlogging. It is necessary to ensure that the cultivation area has a good drainage system to avoid stem death and reduce yield losses.

The above are the passion fruit planting techniques and management points. I hope they will be helpful to growers. Professionals are welcome to share knowledge and learn and progress together.
