The leaves of lisianthus are oval in shape, entire at the edges, gray-green in color, and opposite. The leaves of Platycodon are ovate to lanceolate, with fine serrations at the top of the leaf edges. They are green on the top and white on the bottom, and are arranged in whorls.

The corolla of lisianthus is funnel-shaped, with single or double petals, and the colors are rich and varied, including red, pink, lavender, purple, white, yellow and various complex colors with different degrees of borders.
