How to identify Huangshan Bauhinia

1. Leaves

The leaves of Huangshan Bauhinia are nearly leathery, oval or kidney-shaped, 5 to 11 cm long and 5 to 12 cm wide. The tip of the leaves is acute with a 5 to 8 mm tip, or the tip of the leaves is rounded and has no tip; the base of the leaves is heart-shaped or truncated.

2. Flowers

The flowers of Huangshan Bauhinia bloom earlier than the leaves, usually in clusters on old branches. The flowers are lavender and gradually turn white. The petals are about 1 cm long and the calyx is about 6 mm long. The flowering period is from February to March.

3. Fruit

The pods of Huangshan Bauhinia are thick and leathery, about 7 to 8.5 cm long and 1.3 cm wide. The fruit petals are usually twisted, with 3 to 6 seeds, and the fruiting period is from September to October.
