1. Differences in plants

Pepper tree is an evergreen shrub, about 30 to 90 centimeters in height. The plant is relatively short, with a crown of 30 to 60 centimeters, spreading outward. The branches feel relatively thin to the touch and do not look very strong.

The Zanthoxylum bungeanum is a deciduous shrub with a height of about 3 to 7 meters. The plant is relatively tall compared to the former, and the small branches are covered with short soft hairs, and the branches are gray or brown-gray in color. The whole plant is not smooth, and is covered with thorns that grow obliquely upwards, which can easily hurt your hands.

2. Differences in leaves

The leaves of the former are obovate, about 0.7 to 1 cm long, dark green and shiny in color, and very beautiful, so they are often made into bonsai for people to appreciate.

The leaves of the latter are more diverse in shape, with a length of about 1.5 to 7 cm and a width of about 1 to 3 cm, which is larger than the former. The edges of the leaves are covered with fine serrations, and the surface is covered with a tuft of long brown hairs.

3. Differences in Fruits

The fruit of the former is brown in color.

The latter has red or purple fruit.
