Is Christmas cactus cold-resistant?

Is Christmas cactus cold-resistant?

1. Is it cold-resistant?

It is a tropical plant, not cold-resistant and prefers a warm environment. During the maintenance period, the most suitable temperature environment can be provided between 20 degrees and 25 degrees, which can enable good growth. Although it blooms in winter and spring, it does not mean it is cold-resistant. The temperature in winter still needs to be controlled, and it is best to maintain it above 10 degrees. Only in this way can it bloom normally.

2. Temperature management during flowering period

Its flowering period is relatively long, blooming in winter and spring, but its cold resistance is poor, so attention should be paid to temperature control. After the flower buds are formed, the temperature should be controlled between 16 and 21 degrees, and above 21 degrees during the day, so that the flower buds can form better. If the temperature is below 15 degrees, the flower buds will easily fall off. After the flowers bloom, the temperature should be lowered to between 12 and 15 degrees. Appropriate low temperature can prolong the flowering period.

3. Control temperature in winter

It has poor cold resistance, so you need to pay attention to the low temperature environment in winter, especially in the northern regions, and move it indoors in time and control it. The minimum temperature must be controlled above 5 degrees, otherwise it will be frostbitten and stop growing. In addition, you should also pay attention to the high temperatures in summer. When the temperature is above 28 degrees, it will also go dormant. It is shade-tolerant and should be moved to a cool place for maintenance in summer to avoid affecting its growth.
