Characteristics of orchids

1. What are the characteristics of orchids?

1. It is an epiphytic herb, and its flowers are mainly composed of calyx and petals. The outer part is the sepal, and the inner part is the petal, usually there are only three of them, one of which becomes the lip. In addition, the pistil and stamen grow on the same stamen.

2. A flower stalk will grow from the bottom of the plant's pseudobulb, sometimes one or more. The flowers grow sequentially on the scape and are usually taller than the leaves. The inflorescence of semi-epiphytic orchids is tilted and curved, while the inflorescence of epiphytic orchids is drooping.

3. There is a bract at the bottom of the pedicel of each flower where it connects to the flower axis, tightly surrounding the ovary of the flower. Usually the bracts of terrestrial orchids are longer, reaching about half the length of the ovary. The bracts of epiphytic orchids are very short, usually one-third of the ovary.

4. After the orchid is fertilized, the ovary will gradually expand and develop into a fruit, and the color of the fruit skin will change from yellow-green to brown. When the fruit is ripe, it splits open longitudinally to reveal the seeds.

2. Maintenance characteristics

1. Soil: It is best to use soil containing mainly humus for cultivation.

2. Watering: Usually watering once every three days in spring and autumn, and once a day in summer is enough. The best water for irrigation is usually rainwater, snow water or well water.

3. Fertilization: Just before planting, you need to add some base fertilizer to the bottom of the pot to meet the growth needs of the plant.
