The difference between azalea and bougainvillea

The difference between azalea and bougainvillea

1. Difference of blades

The shapes of the leaves are different. The leaves of azalea are elliptical-ovate or obovate, about 1.5-5 cm long and 0.5-3 cm wide. There are sparsely distributed rough hairs on the leaves and densely grown brown hairs underneath.

The leaves of Bougainvillea are oval or ovate-elliptical in shape, relatively large, about 5-10 cm long, with a very smooth surface and no hairs. The back is sparsely covered with short soft hairs during the seedling stage.

2. Flower Differences

Rhododendron blooms in April and May. The colors of the flowers include bright red, rose, white, dark red, apricot red, snow blue, etc. The flowers are very showy and the corolla is broad funnel-shaped.

The flowering period of Bougainvillea is from June to December. The flower colors are white, red, pink, etc., and the shape of a single petal is triangular.

3. Fruit Difference

The former produces capsules, which are oval in shape, about 1 cm long, covered with rough hairs, and mature around October.

The latter rarely produces actual fruits, but its achenes are pentagonal in shape and surrounded by bracts.
