How to breed Chinese mosquito queen?

The Chinese mosquito net is a plant of the genus Hamamelidaceae of the order Rosales . It has hanging roots and exposed claws, is vigorous and simple, has intertwined branches and trunks, is resistant to pruning, and has strong germination ability. It has high ornamental value as a bonsai. So how do you grow Chinese mosquito queen bonsai? Let’s learn the method below.

1. Soil

The growing stumps of Chinese mosquito queen can be planted in the ground or directly in pots . It does not have high requirements for soil quality and can adapt to mountain soil, loess, garden soil, sandy soil, etc. However, during the stump cultivation period, sandy soil is still preferred. After potting, the potting soil should be breathable, water-permeable, loose, fertile, slightly acidic sandy soil.

2. Lighting

Chinese mosquito queen likes light and is also tolerant to partial shade. It is best to grow it in an environment with sufficient light to prevent it from growing too tall. When the temperature is high in summer, provide shade for it in time.

3. Watering

Daily maintenance can be managed with plenty of water and fertilizer to ensure that the potting soil has sufficient moisture. Long-term water loss can easily lead to poor plant growth or branch loss. If tap water is used for watering, it is advisable to leave it for 1 to 2 days before watering again. You should also spray the potted trees with water frequently to keep them moist to ensure that the plants grow healthily and the leaves are bright.

4. Fertilization

During the cultivation period of Chinese mosquito queen, the plant can be managed with plenty of water and fertilizer to help the plant take shape faster. When caring for the formed potted trees, you need to pay attention to controlling the amount of fertilizer, avoid large amounts of fertilizer and frequent fertilizer application to prevent the leaves of the plant from becoming too large and the internodes from becoming longer, affecting the appearance. When fertilizing, just use decomposed cake fertilizer or organic fertilizer mixed with water for watering.

5. Pruning

According to the shape of the tree stump, use the branch-retention and pole-cutting method to prune and remove excess branches. If you really do pruning in spring, "dripping" may occur. If you do not want to affect the tree's vigor or even endanger the life of the mosquito queen, you can apply latex or seal the wound with wax.

6. Picking buds

Although the flower buds of Chinese mosquito tree are beautiful, they consume a lot of nutrients, so they need to be removed in time to avoid affecting the tree's vigor. Most of the flower buds can be removed during spring pruning, and the remaining parts can be removed by hand in time.

7. Repotting

When the Chinese mosquito queen is first potted, you can cover the soil and cultivate the root shape by gradually lifting the roots. The Chinese mosquito queen grows vigorously and should be repotted every 2 to 3 years. In conjunction with repotting, the roots of the plant should be pruned to make the roots hang down and expose their claws, which looks simple and colorful.
