The difference between Areca palm and Hawaiian coconut

1. Different varieties

Although the Areca palm looks similar to the latter, it also has some differences. It belongs to the genus Areca palm, also known as yellow coconut and purple palm.

Although the Hawaiian coconut belongs to the same family as the former, it belongs to a different family. It is a plant of the genus Cocos nucifera, also known as the bamboo-stem coconut.

2. Different forms

The Areca palm has many branches and lush leaves. The color is lighter, yellow-green, and the surface is covered with a layer of waxy white powder. The stem is very smooth, yellow-green in color, with turquoise spots on it.

Hawaiian coconut has fewer branches, looks sparse, has a darker color, dark green, and has a shiny and beautiful surface. The internode part is relatively short, hollow inside, relatively slender, and shaped like a bamboo node.

3. Different flowers

The inflorescence of the Areca palm is cone-shaped, but the flowers on it are relatively small, ovoid in shape, and golden in color.

The flowers of Hawaiian coconut are fleshy spadixes, the flowers are larger and pink.
