How to divide Clivia

How to divide Clivia

Preparation

flowerpot

For home potted plants, you should choose the flower pots in advance, preferably clay pots. Don't care too much about the appearance of the flower pot and ignore its practicality. Choose a clay pot with good air permeability at the bottom. As for porcelain and pottery, don't consider them as they have poor air permeability and are not conducive to the development of plants.

soil

After the soil is prepared, it needs to be disinfected. Humus soil can be sprayed with potassium permanganate aqueous solution for disinfection; fine river sand can be directly put into boiling water for disinfection, which can prevent the seedlings from being infected and rotted by bacteria.

Prepare the charcoal powder

Charcoal powder can effectively prevent moisture. Division will inevitably leave wounds. Applying charcoal powder on the wounds can absorb moisture and prevent rot.

Sharp knife

The knife used to cut the plants must be sharp to reduce wounds on the plants. Before use, quickly dry-grind the knife on a whetstone to heat the blade, which can effectively sterilize it.

Division method

First, take the mother plant of Clivia out of the pot, replace the soil at the roots, and carefully observe the root system for division.

If the sub-plants grow on the outer edge of the mother plant and are small, you can break them off directly with your hands; if the sub-plants are thick, you can cut them off with a sharp knife. Do not force it to avoid damaging the young plants.

Next, plant the seedlings in pots. The planting depth should not be too deep, it is best to just bury the pseudobulb at the base of the seed plant, and then cover it with a little sterilized fine sand.

Water the plants immediately after planting. After 2 weeks, the root wounds will heal and then cover them with a layer of culture soil. After 1 to 2 months, the daughter plants will grow new roots.
