Planting of mountain roses

Planting of mountain roses

The selection of substrate for sowing mountain roses

The substrate is roughly the same as that of the adult plant. Try not to use peat soil because it easily attracts mushroom mosquitoes. Choose 1 mm medical stone for the surface particles, which can release mineral nutrients and improve the substrate.

Seed selection for mountain rose sowing

The seeds can be refrigerated before use to keep them fresh.

Before sowing, it is best to prepare a little low-concentration potassium permanganate solution (light purple in color) and use it to soak the mountain rose seeds for about 30 minutes.

This sterilizes the seeds and prevents them from getting moldy in high humidity.

Steps for planting mountain roses

The soaked seeds do not need to be taken out. Pour them together with the solution on the substrate and do not cover them with soil.

Add a transparent top cover to the flowerpot and place it near a south- or east-facing window indoors, because mountain rose seeds rely on light to germinate.

Open the top cover for ventilation every evening for about half an hour, and keep it in a sealed container for the rest of the time until the seeds begin to sprout, which takes about 5 days.

Subsequent maintenance of mountain rose sowing

After germination, the ventilation time should be gradually increased until ventilation is throughout the day to prevent seedling rot.

It can be kept in a place with low temperature, low humidity and insufficient light.

The stems of young seedlings are relatively long and are prone to lodging in summer. You can bury the stems with medical stone granules, but the granules must be sterilized at high temperature.
