Cutting propagation of Ficus microcarpa

Cutting propagation of Ficus microcarpa

Cutting propagation method

Generally, young branches are used for cuttings in late spring and early autumn, or old branches are used for cuttings in early spring.

Cutting soil selection

For home cuttings, you can use special nutrient soil from the flower market, or you can use medium-coarse river sand. Before cuttings, you need to rinse them with clean water several times.

However, do not use sea sand or river sand from saline-alkali areas as they are not suitable for the growth of flowers and plants.

Cutting branch selection

When carrying out softwood cuttings, when the plant is growing vigorously from late spring to early autumn, choose strong branches of the current year as heading. After cutting the branches, select the sturdy parts and cut them into 5-15 cm long sections, each with more than 3 leaf nodes.

The upper cut should be cut flat, and the lower cut should be cut obliquely, and both cuts should be made to be smooth.

Management of Ficus microcarpa after cutting

temperature

The suitable temperature for rooting cuttings is 20℃ ~ 30℃.

If the temperature is low, you can wrap the entire flower pot with a film; if the temperature is high, be sure to block the sunlight and spray the banyan tree 3-5 times a day.

Moisture

After cuttings, the relative humidity of the air must be maintained at 75-85%, and spraying is needed to reduce water evaporation from the cuttings.

On sunny days, the temperature is higher, so you need to spray more often. On rainy days, the temperature is lower, so you need to spray less often or not at all.

illumination

Cutting propagation cannot be separated from sunlight, but strong light will hinder the growth of new branches.

After cuttings, 50-80% of the sunlight must be blocked. After the roots grow out, the shading net can be gradually removed: on sunny days, remove the shading net at 4:00 p.m. every day, and cover it before 9:00 am the next day.
