Planting lily bulbs

Planting lily bulbs

What is bulb planting?

The so-called bulb planting is generally a method of propagation for bulbous plants, which can be applied to lilies, tulips, etc.

When purchasing lily bulbs, generally choose large, undamaged and healthy bulbs. Generally, the specifications of lily bulbs are measured by circumference. The larger the bulb, the more flowers it will bloom.

Planting method

1. Pruning the bulb to root

Trim the roots under the bulb, only trim the bad roots and rotten roots, there is no need to shape them for aesthetics.

2. Bulb disinfection

Rinse the trimmed bulbs with clean water and soak them in 800-1000 times carbendazim solution for half an hour. Then take out and dry.

3. Filling the bulb with soil

Fill the flowerpot with soil to a thickness of ten centimeters. You can also add 5-10 grams of compound fertilizer as base fertilizer.

Then place the bulb in the pot at an angle.

Use: Cover the bulb, with the tip of the bud exposed 0.5 cm above the soil surface. There is no need to fill the soil up. As the plant grows, soil will be gradually added later.

Planting and maintenance

time

There are strict requirements for the planting time of lily bulbs. If you plant them at the wrong time, they may not germinate.

Imported bulbs can be planted in autumn. If they are not imported, they usually germinate in the spring of the following year, so you can plant them in autumn or wait until the spring of next year. The autumn planting time is from September to November.

soil

Lilies do not have very high requirements for soil, so sandy soil and nutrient soil are both acceptable. You can choose loose acidic soil, or you can simply go to a flower shop and buy special seedling medium soil.

Moisture

If the soil in the pot is moist when planting lily bulbs, no watering is needed; if it is dry, watering is necessary. After planting, place it in a cool place and wait for it to take root. Afterwards you can lightly mist it with water to keep it moist.

The bulbs do not germinate

A flower lover asked that the lily bulbs in his home have been planted for more than a month but have not sprouted. There are many white roots under the bulb. It's not dead, but why doesn't it sprout?

First of all, the planting time of lily bulbs may be chosen incorrectly, the temperature is not high enough, and the lily bulbs germinate in spring. The roots of the lily have begun to grow and it is not far from sprouting. Just continue to care for it and wait patiently for it to sprout. Don't water too much!
