Propagation of Cymbidium by divisionThe division propagation of Cymbidium is generally carried out in spring and autumn, about once every three years. Select plants with strong growth and dense pseudobulbs for division. After division, at least 5 pseudobulbs should be preserved in each clump. Reduce watering before division and keep the soil in the pot relatively dry. When potting, first cover the hole at the bottom of the pot with broken tiles, then spread a layer of coarse gravel, about 1/5 to 1/4 of the depth of the pot, then put coarse-grained soil and a small amount of fine soil, and plant with sandy loam rich in humus. The depth should be enough to ensure that the pseudobulbs can just be buried in the soil. Leave a 2 cm edge on the edge of the pot and cover it with fine gravel. Finally, water it thoroughly and place it in a cool place for about 10-15 days. During this period, keep the soil moist and carry out normal maintenance. Seed propagation of CymbidiumBecause the seeds of Cymbidium are very fine, their germination ability is extremely low. In addition, its seed coat is not easy to absorb water, so it is difficult to make it germinate if conventional sowing methods are adopted. Therefore, it is necessary to use orchid bacteria or artificial culture medium to provide it with sufficient nutrients to promote its germination. The best time to sow is when the fruit has not cracked. First, disinfect the surface with 75% alcohol, then soak it in 10% sodium hypochlorite for about 5-10 minutes. After taking out the seeds, rinse them three times with sterile water. After that, you can sow the seeds in a culture bottle with prepared culture medium, and then place it in a dark culture room, maintain the temperature at around 25°C, and move it to a light place after it sprouts, and the protocorm will be formed. It usually takes half a year to a year from sowing to transplanting. |
