Water and fertilizer maintenance tips for bulbous begonia

Water and fertilizer maintenance tips for bulbous begonia

Water Management

Bulbous begonias like warm and humid environments, but they are not suitable for growing in overly hot environments. We should pay attention to this when planting bulbous begonias. Therefore, when summer comes, we can spray water around the bulbous begonia to cool it down and prevent the leaves and flowers of the bulbous begonia from withering and falling off due to high temperatures.

Although bulbous begonias like a humid environment, they cannot be watered too much at one time. Water accumulation will affect the growth of bulbous begonias and may also cause the reproduction of pathogens, so we must do a good job of drainage. It is particularly important to note that it is not appropriate to water the bulbous begonia too much when it is budding or about to bloom. The amount of watering should be reduced during this period. Also reduce the amount of watering for bulbous begonias in winter.

Fertilizer application

Begonia bulbiferum is a plant that requires a relatively large amount of fertilizer and prefers slightly acidic soil.

When the bulbous begonia is in the growth period, the required amount of fertilizers of the three elements of nitrogen, phosphorus and potassium is the same and should be applied evenly.

When the bulbous begonia is about to enter the flowering period, the dosage of phosphorus fertilizer and potassium fertilizer should be appropriately increased. This can promote flowering and make the flowers more beautiful. During this period, fertilizer can be applied every 3-4 days, and the fertilizer content can also be increased appropriately. When applying fertilizer, you can follow the principle of applying small amounts of fertilizer frequently, which is beneficial for plants to absorb fertilizer. It is worth noting that there is no need to fertilize bulbous begonias in summer and winter.
