How to propagate cactus

How to propagate cactus

1. Cutting propagation

To propagate cacti by cuttings, first cut off the 1st to 4th nodes of the stem or a large branch that can branch as cuttings;

Before cuttings, the cuttings should be air-dried for three days until they are dry.

Prepare cutting medium: use nutrient soil or river sand, peat soil, etc. as cutting material;

After choosing the substrate, simply insert the dried cuttings into the soil.

After planting, place it in a warm and sunny place for maintenance. Remember to water it less and wait for it to take root and sprout.

2. Seed propagation

Cacti can be propagated through seeds to produce new varieties.

First, you can pollinate the cactus flowers. With your help, just use a cotton swab to apply pollen to the pistil; after a period of growth, the fruit will mature, and then you can take out the seeds inside the fruit and clean them.

After cleaning, you need to wrap the seeds with gauze; then prepare the potting soil, water it, you can sow the seeds in the potting soil, and place them in a dark place for maintenance.

After the seedlings sprout, they can be transplanted, planted and maintained.

3. Grafting

When grafting and propagating, you must first choose healthy and disease-free bulb seedlings, cut off the tip first, and then peel off the skin.

Then prepare a well-growing leaf cactus plant as an auxiliary rootstock, and then cut off the bottom of the ball seedling to expose the ball core.

Then disinfect all the tools used and you can start grafting.

After grafting, move it to a place with weaker light for maintenance, paying attention to loosening the soil and drainage.
