How to transplant and repot a cactus

Transplanting cactus - preparing the soil

When transplanting cactus, suitable potting soil is necessary.

Speaking of flower pots, the size of the flower pots should be determined according to the size of the plant. When choosing, be careful not to choose a flower pot that is too large. A large pot is not conducive to drainage and can easily cause the roots of the cactus to rot. Because cactus does not have very high requirements for fertilizer when growing, a smaller flower pot will be enough. It is best to have small holes on the flowerpot, and the color and shape can be determined according to your preferences.

As for the soil, basically just keep it breathable and well-drained. Use ordinary garden soil and add some coarse sand. The soil can be disinfected before transplanting.

How to transplant cactus

When transplanting, you need to take out the plant and move it to a new pot.

First, remove the plant. To prevent being injured by thorns when taking out the plant, you can first put on thicker plastic gloves, then gently clamp the cactus with pliers, gently tap the flowerpot, or shovel the soil, and when the soil is loose, take out the plant. Remember not to damage the roots.

The second step is to prune the plants and remove some of the old roots. Then plant it in a new pot, secure the plant, and cover it with soil, being careful not to cover the plant. After covering with soil, compact it lightly and then wipe the flower pot clean.

The last step is maintenance. The newly transplanted cactus needs to be watered once first, just keep the soil moist. Place it in a cool and ventilated place. New roots will grow in about a month and you can manage it normally afterwards.
