How to graft a multi-colored salvia

How to graft a multi-colored salvia

Preparation for grafting of Salvia splendens

If you want to make the salvia bloom in multiple colors, grafting is a good choice. Grafting can be carried out in June and July every year. Because you want it to bloom in multiple colors, you can choose scion of different colors when selecting it and graft it to the appropriate position on the impatiens plant. In this way, the impatiens can bloom flowers of multiple colors.

Grafting method of red safflower

When grafting a impatiens, you can use the grafting method, choose a suitable rootstock, use a knife to remove the epidermis, about 1 cm, and when the length is about 5 cm, you can see the xylem.

The scion needs to be as thick as the cut rootstock. Align the scion and the rootstock, then stick them together and tie them with thread. Cover the diseased soil with a plastic bag and tie the bag. Covering with plastic bags can reduce air pollution and maintain higher humidity.

The grafted impatiens can be placed in a relatively cool place with good ventilation. After about a week, the plastic bag can be removed. After the scion survives, remove the binding wire and place it in a place with sufficient light for maintenance.

Things to note when grafting red sage

Basically, after the grafted salvia plant survives, it will grow flower buds in September and start to bloom in November, and the flowering period can last about 3 months.

In addition, planting plants of different colors of impatiens in one place can create a similar effect.
